Every year, Simcoe County welcomes around nine million visitors, making tourism a billion-dollar industry in this region. As a result, tourism accounts for thousands of local job openings, from entry level positions to executive careers, from part-time, seasonal employment to full-time permanent work.

Looking for a cost-effective solution to recruitment? In an economy with labour shortages across industries, co-op student opportunities are a great way to develop students into loyal, life-long employees. Most Co-op positions align with the school calendar, starting in September, January, and May. Terms typically last four months, with some work terms lasting up to 16 months.

The best candidates will be selective in what jobs to apply for due to the time it takes to complete applications – A local Employment Ontario Office, FOCUS Employment Services recommends including salary or rate of pay as well as benefits, vacation time and any other compensation you offer.

There is a difference between training and employee development. According to Steve Hawter, Vice President of learning and development at The Learning Experience, training fills a gap, whereas professional development focuses on employee and company growth.
