Manufacturing Excellence at MacLean Engineering
MacLean Engineering has been manufacturing mobile equipment for mining, municipal, environment and industrial customers for almost 50 years. They have made a name for themselves well beyond the borders of Simcoe County, as they currently sell products and services in 23 countries on six continents.
MacLean is headquartered in Collingwood with satellite manufacturing facilities in Barrie and Owen Sound. This Southern Georgian Bay team is comprised of some 400-plus employees working in a variety of positions, including marketing, engineering, programming, welding, CNC machining, product support, purchasing, mechanical design, and more.
“We believe in training and promoting within. If you have a strong work ethic, prove yourself and make your intentions known, there are opportunities for movement and growth,” said Bob Purvis, Plant Manager in Collingwood.
Working at MacLean provides an opportunity to be part of an organization that is forward thinking and cutting edge. Staying focused on Don MacLean’s founding design imperatives – safety, productivity and enduring quality – MacLean recently launched a fleet of electric vehicle series (EV) that connects the mining cycle to the battery cycle.
“Mining companies globally are looking to reduce their energy use, cut operating and maintenance costs, and remove a known carcinogen from their working environments,” said Stuart Lister, Director of Marketing and Communications.
A timely and strategic response to industry trends has positioned MacLean as a frontrunner in this space. They are already seeing the results as the production floor has recently experienced a substantial increase in EV builds.
“This year we sent a repowered EV grader up to Chapleau, Ontario, to work underground at Goldcorp’s Borden Gold project, a mobile equipment ‘first’ in the world as far as we know,” said Lister.
