Provincial Funding Opportunities

Ontario Disability Support Program

Provides business skills training, mentoring, financial assistance, help with business planning, and help with marketing to entrepreneurs with disabilities. In order to qualify entrepreneurs must be at least 16 years old, be a resident of Ontario, be able to work in Canada, have a disability expected to last a year or more, and have a disability that makes it hard to find or to keep a job.

Ontario Genomics

OGI seeks to support those in the genomics field with funding and award opportunities for research, commercialization, training and education. Some examples of funding include the Pre-Commercialization Business Development Fund and the ODI Technology Seeding Fund.

Rural Economic Development Program

Businesses can be eligible for a grant of up to 50% of the costs spent on a partnership project to train employees, create marketing materials, hire consultants, commission plans and studies, and make upgrades to equipment and capital. Food processing businesses can apply by themselves; other businesses must partner with individuals, other businesses, community organizations or municipalities.

Skills Development Fund

The Skills Development Fund will support projects that will help relieve pandemic-induced barriers to hiring, training and retaining workers.

The ministry is seeking projects that will enable market-driven solutions and unlock the economic potential of skilled trades and broader workforce development initiatives to facilitate the province’s economic recovery.

The Achievement Incentive and Group Sponsorship Grant

Employers who train apprentices may be eligible for grants to help mitigate the cost of training. The Achievement Incentive and Group Sponsorship Grant will help more employers take on apprentices to build Ontario’s apprenticeship and skilled trades pipeline.

The Grid Innovation Fund

The Grid Innovation Fund advances innovative opportunities to achieve electricity bill savings for Ontario ratepayers by funding projects that either enable customers to better manage their energy consumption or that reduce the costs associated with maintaining reliable operation of the province’s grid. The Fund makes investments in specific projects – not companies – with clear objectives. It supports projects that validate the performance and business case of promising new technologies, practices, and services. The Fund also supports projects that identify and mitigate market barriers, or otherwise accelerate the adoption of competitive cost-effective energy solutions.
